FAQs

When is registration?
Registration for the spring season is in January, summer season in March, and winter season in September. Returning swimmers have the option to register before new swimmers for all seasons.

How do I register?
Registration can be done online at www.planoparks.org by clicking Leisure Online and going to the Special Aquatics programs. It can also be done at any recreation center in person or over the phone.

What do tryouts consist of and when are they?
To qualify for the team, swimmers 10 and younger must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle (front crawl) or backstroke (back crawl) without stopping.  Swimmers 11 and older must be familiar with all 4 competitive strokes.   Swimmers register for the team first and then try out. Waitlisted swimmers only try out if a spot becomes available for them.  For the summer season, there is a specific day in May that everyone tries out due to the large numbers. For all other seasons tryouts will be held the first day of practice. If you wish to schedule a tryout before the first day of practice, email Sara at sarar@plano.gov. If a child does not qualify for the team all money will be reimbursed.

How often do the Aquaducks practice?
During the summer season the Aquaducks swim Monday through Friday. During winter and spring seasons they swim twice a week, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.

Are the fees monthly, yearly, or per season?
The Aquaducks fees are per season. The winter season, spring season, and summer season all have separate fees. For instance, the summer fee covers all of June and July.

What is the withdrawal policy?
The withdrawal policy is the same as for all parks and recreation classes. A swimmer must withdraw one week prior to the start date to receive a full refund. A swimmer may only withdraw after that time if there is someone on the waiting list willing to fill their spot and a $5 fee will be charged. If a swimmer must withdraw due to a medical condition (e.g. broken bone) a refund will be given based on how many practices they must miss.

What equipment or other expenses are involved?
The only required equipment is a swimsuit and towel. Optional equipment includes goggles and a swim cap. The Aquaducks do have a team suit, cap and shirt but the purchase of all these things are completely optional. Entry into swim meets is $2 per person.

Where can I buy swimsuits, goggles, etc?
There is a swimming store named Xtreme Swim Shop at the NE corner of Park and Coit. This is where you can buy the Aquaducks team suit and other swimming equipment.
